Please join us on September 8th for a Market Outlook panel discussion with BMO Wealth Management – U.S. Chief Investment Officer, Yung-Yu Ma, and BMO Family Office Chief Investment Officer, Carol Schleif. During this presentation, they will provide an in-depth understanding of the current market trends, risks, and investment opportunities. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Yung-Yu Ma is the Chief Investment Officer for BMO Wealth Management in the U.S. and joined the organization in 2016. He brings a dynamic combination of academic achievements and industry experience to the Investment Strategy team. As Chief Investment Officer, he is responsible for guiding strategic and tactical asset allocations for client portfolios and leads a team that conducts macroeconomic and market analysis, and also modeling across asset classes. He is frequently cited in print media including the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, Barron’s, etc., and has appeared on NPR, CNBC, and Yahoo Finance television.
Prior to joining BMO, Yung-Yu was a finance professor at Lehigh University, where he taught courses in equities, fixed income, and derivatives. His academic studies have been cited in leading finance journals (including the Journal of Finance), top law journals, the Wall Street Journal, the Handbook of High Frequency Trading, and in the Oxford Handbook of Corporate Governance. During his tenure at Lehigh, he was awarded the Staub Outstanding Teacher Award, awarded to one faculty member by a vote of faculty and students. Prior to his academic career, Yung-Yu worked for a global consulting firm with operations in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China where he performed financial, macroeconomic, and market analysis for global companies. Later, he served as a regional manager at a Fortune 500 subsidiary in Taipei and Mainland China.
Dr. Ma earned his Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Utah and his B.A. in Economics and Political Science, magna cum laude, at Williams College in Massachusetts.
Carol Schleif, CFA, FSA | Chief Investment Officer | BMO Family Office
Carol Schleif is the Chief Investment Officer of BMO Family Office, an integrated wealth management provider that serves ultra-affluent individuals, families and family offices across their tax, estate, investment, philanthropic, risk and family capital needs. She is a voting member of the Asset Allocation Work Group and Investment Committee as well as leading the Senior Investment Advisory Council for BMO Wealth Management.
Carol is an experienced investment leader with 40 years in the industry and has worked extensively with ultra-affluent families in the management and oversight of their investments. She has a deep understanding of the markets and portfolio construction and management across asset classes. She is a sought-after speaker and thought leader, and a frequent contributor to Bloomberg, Reuters and other financial media.
Prior to joining BMO Family Office, Carol served as Deputy Chief Investment Officer with Abbot Downing. In this role, she oversaw several key initiatives at the firm and drove product and content development. She led the Private Wealth Management Investment Strategy work stream. She also launched and led mentoring and training programs to enhance career development for asset management employees.
Carol serves on the joint board of trustees for the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University where she co-chairs both endowments’ investment committees. She also serves on the University of Minnesota Discovery Capital Advisory Board and the Hamline University Finance Curriculum Advisory Committee.
Carol earned her MBA from Hamline University. She earned undergraduate degrees in both business administration and equestrian science from William Woods College, where she graduated salutatorian and summa cum laude. She has also earned the Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) and Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designations.
